Desktop Searches

Hi,

I hope everybody is familiar on search engines. If we talk about search engines we will remember only internet search engines and of course “Google”. Earlier searching was very slow until Google introduced caching mechanism to cache files and to display them immediately within in very short period of time. It was actually old concept but earlier due to lack of resources it was not very successful. In olden days cost per GB space was very high. But now a days cost per GB (Disk Space) is very low. Thus caching technology has become very popular.

Now this has reached even to desktops. First it was “Google” again who introduced desktop search and now is available for download at
http://desktop.google.com. It is very impressive and very fast.

Following Google Yahoo and Microsoft (MSN) also introduced desktop search engines. Always when it comes to Google and others is the presentation layer. When you take yahoo mail and Google mail and hotmail the presentation layer in Google is not rich as yahoo or hotmail.

Now MSN has introduced a desktop search which very impressive and very attractive to use. It can be downloaded from
http://toolbar.msn.com.

As I mentioned earlier if we were to compare the presentation tier, msn is very good. Every thing always has their own plus and minuses. In Google Desktop Search everything is text based results and going through one by one is pretty tough for non computer savvy’s but on the other hand MSN’s presentation makes easier for the beginner to get to their file easily.

The minus behind is it is eating of lot of resources. Google in windows machines uses three services namely GoogleDesktop.exe, GoogleDesktopCrawl.exe and GoogleDesktopIndex.exe. The total memory consumed for all the three services is less than 10,000K. On the other hand MSN uses windowssearch.exe, windowsSearchfiler.exe and WindowsSearchIndexer.exe which eats up to 20000K of memory.

If your system is running low on resources I would recommend you to go on google desktop search, but if you have enough resources and would like to experience the visual goodies install MSN Desktop Search and experience it.

I have installed Both ;) to try both and experience both as per my time needs. I love MSN and I like Google very much.

Thanks for your time.

Have a nice day

KMPlayer - one of the Best and Most Versatile Media Player

Official Website for KMPlayer: http://www.kmplayer.com/forums/index.php These days playing media on a computer system is very common. Now a days many people are using computer as a main Media Center and for me it has always been. I always like to any movie VCD or DVD or Other media on my computer system. Now with my Computer LCD Screen is of 22" Size (21" of My TV) I rather avoid watching TV. In future even if I buy a bigger size LCD TV such as 37" I can provide an input to the new TV viz my HDMI port in my computer system or By TV-Out of my Computer System. The reason to use computer system for playback is 1. Easy to use 2. Full Control 3. Can Play anything (almost all video formats). With the widening media formats, some devices support one type of format, others the other one. Now coming to the topic, I have been using Winamp earlier to play mp3 Songs, after which I totally switched to Windows Media Player from Version 8 onwards. I found that Windows Media Playe
